17th International Geographical Conference of the Pakistan Geographical Association Held in Pashawar

 

 

Under the auspices of the Pakistan Geographical Association (PGA), the 17th International Geographical Conference themed "Impact of Climate Change on Water and Agricultural Sustainability" organized by Department of Geography & Geomatics, University of Peshawar was held at Bara Gali Summer Campus dated May 23-26, 2022.

The conference was attended by over 150 Geographers from all over Pakistan and abroad. During the PGA Business Session, the outgoing PGA executive body presented the PGA progress report. After that the election for new PGA executive body was convened by Prof Dr Safdar Ali Shirazi, Chairman, Department of Geography, University of the Punjab Lahore and the new PGA executive body was elected. Prof Dr.Atta- ur- Rehman, Chairman Department of Geography& Geomatics, University of Peshawar was elected as new president of the Pakistan Geographical Association.

The Department of Geography, University of the Punjab, in collaboration with Pakistan Geographical Association (PGA), organized a successful post-doctoral colloquium at the Department’s Masaud A. Mian RS & GIS Lab, where Dr. Noor Hussain Chandio (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur-Sindh) was conferred a postdoctoral research certificate. Dr. Chandio completed his Postdoc research work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Safdar Ali Shirazi. He worked on the Implications of Urbanization on Agricultural Lands (A Case Study of Khairpur District-Sindh).

This was followed by yet another event; the 1st PakTurk International Symposium was virtually and jointly organized by the Department of Geography, University of the Punjab and Department of Geography, Karabuk University, Turkey between June 3-4, 2022. The symposium was themed around “Historical Linkages between Pakistan and Turkey Past, Present and Future Prospects”. A large number of participants attended the symposium where more than 50 oral presentations were presented by the researchers from both Turkey and Pakistan.
